In this work, we investigated how the interplay between oxygen-containing yttrium hydride (YHO) and molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) affects the photochromic behaviour of thin film bilayers. Our findings highlight the crucial role of hydrogen migration from YHO into MoO3, leading to the formation of molybdenum bronze and significantly enhancing photo-darkening contrast. This study provides valuable insights into hydrogen dynamics in mixed-anion systems and opens up new perspectives for passive optical devices and smart coatings.
