On October 8, 2025, the SWEB project team visited Daugavpils University’s G. Liberts Innovative Microscopy Centre, marking an important step in strengthening Latvia’s regional research and education ecosystem. Building on the partnership initiated earlier this year, the visit reaffirmed SWEB’s commitment to advancing scientific excellence, fostering collaboration, and contributing to balanced regional development within the European Research Area (ERA).
Located in the Latgale region, Daugavpils University is a key centre of higher education and innovation in eastern Latvia. Its G. Liberts Innovative Microscopy Centre serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research, combining advanced microscopy, materials science, and life sciences. The cooperation between DU and SWEB underscores the importance of connecting national research infrastructures and promoting the free circulation of knowledge across Latvia’s scientific landscape.
During the visit, Dr. Boris Polyakov, Head of the Additive Manufacturing Group at the Thin Films Laboratory, ISSP UL, and SWEB WP4 Lead, presented the project’s recently launched “Advanced Physics Online Learning Course on Smart Windows”, an open-access educational initiative designed to empower young researchers and students with knowledge in thin film technologies, chromogenic materials, and smart coatings. The course, available on the SWEB YouTube channel.
