Right a month after the launch of the SWEB project, on 27th of February 2023 ISSP TFL team together with ERA Chair Dr.Smagul Karazhanov held a first meeting with research team from the Uppsala University to discuss scientific activities and prospect cooperation opportunities.
Meeting was focused on mixed anion materials for applications in smart windows and related experimental activities, obtained results and further enhancement roadmap. Dr.Primetzhofer introduced Tandem Lab (Uppsala University) followed by Dr.Moldarev who shared team’s experience in photochromism related research actions. ISSP TFL team shared SWEB vision regarding thermochromic, electrochromic and photochromic materials. In addition Dr.Zubkins and PhD stundets Halil Arslan presented ongoing scientific activities regarding yttrium oxide and oxyhidrides as a part of the TFL expansion activities towards advanced smart windows technology development.
Besides that, groups discussed industry partnership related challenges, region-specific demand for smart windows, market trends as well as technology contribution into EU decarbonization process. The last, but not the least points discussed ware approaches to ensure sustainable development of the TFL both in terms of research excellence and increase of human-capacities by ERA team, including gender balance challenge aimed by the SWEB project.
ISSP TFL and UU Tandem Lab teams came to conclusion that there is broad spectrum of opportunities for further cooperation, including short terms scientific visits, knowledge exchanges, potential co-creation using available facilities as well as partnership within upcoming Horizon Europe programs’ funding calls.
Meeting was followed by a roundtable discussion and TFL tour guided by the head of the laboratory Prof.Dr.Juris Purans, who introduced guests with available infrastructure, patented antibacterial coating deposition, plans on roll-to-roll equipment installation enabling further prototyping of smart windows, as well as shared his vision on TFL staff’s skill development in innovation commercialization, stakeholder engagement and communication.
