Researcher Night 2024

On 27 September 2024 the Smart Windows for Zero Energy Buildings (SWEB) team from the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia participated with interactive stand during Researchers’ Night at ISSP UL.

At the stand SWEB team and Thin Film Lab researchers led by Dr. Juris Purans welcomed visitors of all ages to explore the science behind smart window technologies. Attendees could:

  • Learn about photochromic, electrochromic, and thermochromic coatings that enhance energy efficiency.
  • Interact with live demonstrations showcasing how smart glass adapts to light and heat .
  • Engage in hands-on activities, including small-scale experiments designed to spark curiosity about sustainable materials and building tech.

“Researchers’ Night is a fantastic platform for translating complex science into playful, memorable experiences,” said Dr. Boris Polyakov, SWEB WP3 lead: “We were thrilled to inspire young visitors and highlight the real-world impact of our work.”

This year’s event, a national celebration of science and innovation, brought together Latvian research institutions to open their doors to the public. SWEB’s presence reaffirmed its commitment to STEM outreach, fostering scientific literacy and environmental awareness across generations.
