On 15th of November 2024 the Smart Windows for Zero Energy Buildings (SWEB) project proudly co-organized a challenge at The Raccoons Hackathon a dynamic 48-hour innovation event held in Riga that brought together aspiring tech talents to develop future-facing solutions.
As one of the four thematic tracks, the SWEB Deep Science Challenge focused on enhancing building energy efficiency through smart window technologies inviting participants to explore advanced materials like photochromic, electrochromic, or thermochromic coatings. Over an intensive weekend, teams worked on innovative concepts ranging from smart glass prototypes to digital systems integrating AI and BIM tools.
SWEB was represented by Dr. Annamarija Trausa, who served as a mentor for the Deeptech track teams, guiding participants in applying scientific knowledge to real-world challenges.
The winning project, developed by team ECOWIND, introduced a smart window solution combining energy-generating transparent solar panels with privacy features and customizable visuals demonstrating a strong blend of sustainability, functionality and design.
The event reflected SWEB’s ongoing mission to foster curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and empower the next generation of innovators in tackling the energy and sustainability challenges of tomorrow.
