On September 3, the SWEB team welcomed representatives from AVL, a global leader in mobility technologies, to explore collaboration opportunities in hydrogen, power electronics, automotive, and aviation sectors. AVL experts presented their latest activities and strategic directions, opening the floor for a lively exchange of ideas.

Dr. Boris Polyakov, Head of the Additive Manufacturing Group, presented SWEB research activities at the Thin Film Laboratory. Dr. Aleksejs Zolotarjovs, Head of the ISSP UL Optical Materials Laboratory, introduced the latest findings from the FeLow-D project and shared the lab-to-market transition story of Spectromarine. Dr. Gints Kučinskis highlighted the Swiss-Latvian Partnership in Applied Research programme and the technological portfolio of the Energy Materials Laboratory.

The meeting highlighted the importance of science–industry cooperation, while the synergies created between ISSP UL laboratories provide a strong foundation for broader collaboration with industry and AVL. Both partners concluded that there are concrete opportunities for joint efforts within upcoming EIC Pathfinder calls and agreed to continue the dialogue. The next milestone will be the annual SWEB Industry Days, where discussions will advance towards practical cooperation.

With its mission to advance excellence and innovation, the SWEB project continues contributing to the European Research Area (ERA) objectives by fostering cross-sectoral partnerships and supporting knowledge transfer.
